My parents purchased a Russian tortoise in 2003. I have recently taken him to my house as I feel he wasn’t getting the proper attention and care. I was reading up on care and I’m not sure what to do about hibernation, they have had him for 19 years and he’s never hibernated. Is it necessary to start hibernating him during the winters? He is an indoor tortoise and I would guess he’s about 25 years old, he has a heat regulated enclosure (temps around 75-80) and doesn’t seem to ever slow down. I brought him to the vet when I took him to my house and he’s perfectly healthy, therefore I’m not sure if hibernation would be beneficial or not. Added a pic of my boy cuddling!
