Any thoughts on making deep shade for some outside enclosures? I was thinking about using shade cloth. If I did, should I hang it off the ground or just lay it on top of the enclosure?

Can you post pictures of your enclosure? Advice would differ slightly if the walls are solid vs walls are fencing. with solid walls, the open top helps with air flow/heat dissipation.

I wouldn't lay something across the top as the first level of shade. Even with good airflow, it can get real hot right under the cloth. I'd have something several feet above creating shade, and then depending on enclosure, something lower, and so forth. And then the final level would be a hide or bush.

Jaizei is correct. Putting the shade cloth too low traps heat under it.

I wouldn't use the one you posted. It only blocks 40%...it's not good enough. You want 80 or 90% minimum.
