Don't try an capture that turtle...He can snap your hand right off...he's a wild animal, and if he's a pest call Dept of Fish and Game to come and get him...but if you, or your friend are not way experienced..don't mess with this old turtle...he's lived a long time it looks, and made it through and he's dangerous

That is a full grown female Snapping Turtle that is probably looking for a place to lay her eggs (or had just recently finished laying them). They are not friendly, so warn your friend not to get too close to the head. The neck can extend as far out as the shell is long, so care is needed to catch/move them without getting bitten.

Here in the Chicago burbs, every year we run across four or five of these big snapping turtles that have left their ponds and wandered on to the street. I keep leather gloves in my car so I can pick them up, get them off the road way and get them back to their ponds or if they wandered too far and I don’t know where it came from, I put them I. The pond in my backyard. Yeah, these babies bite and can take off a finger!
