I'm just guessing, but that looks like slow growth in somewhat dry conditions to me. How is your tortoise set up? Heating, lighting open or closed top? Humid hide? Water dish? What are your temps and humidity and how are you measuring them?

I thought he looked a little dry too. Slight pyramiding also.

They are suppose to have a high humidity, with top layer being dry to prevent shell rot which they are more prone too then some others. Check out the caresheet on the tortoiselibrary.com. It's a forum members site.

It's a beautiful redfoot, but I would definitely up the moisture content if possible

he is in a 55 gallon tank, uv strip bulb 15 watt , Extroterra 100 watt infrared for heat(replacing with a Che tonight) don't like the red. The top has foil placed ontop, Cooler end is at 78 and the rest 87. humidity is usually at 60% trying to get it higher. I have been soaking and spraying him daily. I also spray tank twice daily and have 4 real plants in there that I keep well watered. He is eating and drinking great. He has 2 hides that are also moist.
