My Russian tortoise, Styx is having problems with his shell. It seems to be flaking in spots but there’s no fluid or blood. He’s had these spots since I got him but they seem to be getting bigger. Does anyone know what’s going on?IMG_2430.jpeg

it's from a previous injury that caused the keratin and bone to die in that spot. It is in the process of building new keratin and bone (takes a LONG time) and while that:s happening the dead parts flake off.

Thank you so much! Is there anything I can do to help him?

Ensure regular shallow warm water soaks to boost hydration. Provide cuttlefish in the enc to boost calcium required for shell, beak and claw growth, lastly diet provide fresh leaves daily with a light dusting of calcium powder twice a week. Heat, light and humidity all play a part for smooth slow shell growth.
