Please help. I've had my little men since 09/2017. I've noticed that Leo and Ralph shell is starting to look ashy and has these spots. Also I've noticed that Leo skin and the top of his head is a little darker. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!? HELP!!!

I don't see "ashy", but they both look fine to me. Shell rot happens when the shell is subjected to constant moisture, especially pee, so it usually happens on the bottom shell.

Ooh, phew! Well why does his shell have the white spots? He didn't have those when I first got him. Also, the white rings around his shell.

The lighter color between the scutes is new growth.

Okay I was so worried! The coconut oil is that okay to use on their shell. I heard it would kinda cook them under the light.

If you'd like to use oil of any kind on a shell, here's how I do it:

1. Wash the tortoise well with soap, water and a brush. I use baby shampoo
2. Dry the shell completely
3. Apply a thin coating of oil and allow it to absorb for about a half hour
4. Polish off the oil with a clean, absorbent towell, cloth
