Possibly or a fungus. They need to be kept on dry substrate, but while keeping humidity up. This can be done by putting warm water into the corners, wetting the lower layers or if you spray, spray the sides. Try putting some anti fungal cream, like athletes foot cream on it and see if it clears up. If it gets worse not better, put a antibiotic cream on it.

I use a dedicated toothbrush to brush in the cream so that it gets in all the little nooks and crannies.
