So I was at the shop the other day and happened upon some viola plants being sold off cheap, so I bought some for my garden. Now I know that viola plants are edible for torts but that shop bought plants are usually treated with chemicals. If I keep the plants in the garden/pots, how long should I wait before they can be fed to my tort (I am presuming here that at some point the chemicals will be washed off?) or will they never be safe? Thanks for any guidance!

My understanding is that the soil is filled with pesticides and fertilizers, and should be switched out; that the plants themselves should be grown out for 6-12 months before feeding them to your tortoise.
