I was told by my vet to remove the sand from both the indoor and outdoor enclosure. I replaced it with bark bits which I purchased from a pet store. Should I dampen it slightly?
Thanks :tort:

I would. But I would also add moss into the enclosure as well. The amount you need to dampen it will varify by tort species.

You can dampen it to keep the dust down, however if your Russian is an older (not a baby) tortoise, he doesn't require a damp substrate to grow smoothly. Just don't make it too wet.

agree.
When you replace the bark in a few months, you can also use Cypress mulch, which retains moisture well w/o being soggy.
