Humid hide most rf and yellow foots will hide in a dark humid area both for sleeping and to feel safe. And he mentioned buying plants it is a good idea to raise humidity in the whole enclosure. The fake silk plants will hold water and can be placed right under the CHE and unlike a real plant won't die

This is my first time on the Tortoise Forums, and this is my first Tortoise, who i call Sir.PokemonRedForeman, or Foreman for short, :D. It has Been difficult keeping the right humidity and temp up here in PA, but i think I'm starting to manage. I have a Heat lamp, heat pad, repti-fogger, UVB lamp, and a pretty good enclosure. The temp is usually around 75 degrees, and the humidity is stable at around 75%. I hope I'm paranoid but I've been noticing dry skin constantly, and I'm not too sure on early signs of pyramiding. He also doesn't like greens, For example, since i was concerned i fed him only greens for three days and he didn't eat any of it, he only likes strawberries, Tomatoes, grapes, and the weekly butter worm. Please give me the facts about my Tortoises Health and ask for more information, or pictures. I've had him for about 8 months now, and i got him from TurtleSource.com by the way.

Welcome to the Forum! It is great to have you here!

I would worry a bit that the temp is a bit low, I would strive for 80-85 with a warmer spot about 90. They have to be warm to digest their food! That maybe why he doesnt want to eat the good stuff and only wants to eat the sweet treats. Good job on the humidity! The higher the better!

What kind of greens are you feeding him? Have you tried Kale? My Tyrone LOVES strawberries, but they should not be fed daily! I would suggest ordering some Mazuri. You can get it from Mazuri.com. Try the small bag it runs about $13 and will last about 3 months. I feed about 6-8 pellets soaked in water until soft. It is really like tortoise crack! I use it every 3rd day. It has alot of good nutrients in it and is good if you are worried about him not getting the right stuff in his diet and it is a great source of fiber! In between I feed a variety of kale, dandelion, and spring mix. You may have to purée the strawberries and mix with the greens so he can smell them and has to eat the greens to get any strawberry. Are you soaking him? I still soak Tyrone 2 times a week. Even though he has a big soaking dish available at all times.

I am sure the experts will be along to offer more advice. I have had Tyrone for two years and I am still learning!

Cute! How is the CHE helping your temps?

A humid hide is a log/pot pretty much anything they can hide in that you keep moist. I keep a log with damp sphagnum moss inside, he hangs out in it during the day but always comes out to the same sleep spot around bed time.

Here's a pic of my set up for reference:

I buy a bunch of silk plants and stick them into the substrate and bend them over, forming a cave. This is for my small Cherry Head, not the bigger one. I have two heat emitters one on each side, and a long tube 5.0 UVB in the middle. (a 95 gal planted vivarium for the little one.) Each vivarium is set up differently for the size of the tortoise (or turtle). Inside the hide I have long fiber moss that I wet with hot water and squeeze out and fluff up every few days to hold in the humidity. There is a lot of moss in there and she literally has to dig her way into the hide. I spray the plants and the tortoise when she come's out to eat every day. The real plants are planted in their little pots and I water them every few days. The silk plants stay wet for a long time and keep in the warm humidity inside the hide area. Every one does things differently, but this is just what has been working for me.

I think that would be OK. I always sprinkle some cypruss mulch around the enclosure, even outside in the gardens.

I use coco fiber and multch the. Cypress should be fine try and add moss though it'll help the humidity and I find my yellow foot spends more time in/on the moss then the fiber/multch mix
