We have a local flee market, and every week I see them posting those babies for sale. What are those turtles? Or tortoises?
Unfortunately, all of them are just caught on the river banks.
Do you think if the tortoises/turtles would survive if they would be released?

The dark colored ones (6) are Snapping Turtles. The green ones are sliders of some type. I can't see them well enough to ID the species, but they could very well be the very common Red-eared Slider or maybe Yellow-bellied Slider or a mix of several similar Slider species.

There're always a lot of turtles by the river. And teenagers catch them for fun or for sale.
$10.00 each.

All native turtles in Texas are regulated to some extent. Idk how serious TPWD would be if its just kids catching them for fun, even without a hunting license. But I think they've cracked down on taking wild turtles then selling them.

I hope TPWD will be serious about it. I'm going to report about this.
Thank you!
