I recently grew & planted wheatgrass in my russian's enclosure. The wheatgrass grew very well in the coco coir and he nibbles on it occasionally, but mostly by accident while he's munching on his meal.

A week ago one of my batches of wheatgrass died and I pulled it out to replace it with a new one. I noticed that the root system in this batch was very finely meshed together and cool to the touch. I almost trashed it, but left the root/seed/soil/ system intact and threw away the dead grass.

So far the "substrate" seems very good - firmer than coco coir, but not dry or spaced apart like reptibark. It actually retains humidity relatively well. My only concern is with any molding, but my daily checks don't indicate anything yet
