Hello and welcome.

Soaking depends on the age/size of your Russian and the weather.

Very young tortoises benefit from a daily 20 minute soak. As the tortoise nears adulthood this can be dropped back to a couple of times a week.

However, if the weather is very hot and dry then dehydration becomes a greater risk and soaking daily, or even twice daily, may be necessary.

If your tort isn't eating or is sick then it must be soaked daily too. A healthy tortoise can go several days without food, but not water.

Is your tortoise inside our outside?

Our adult is outside, in mild and slightly humid weather. She gets quite a few soaks after hibernation and then once a week until she starts getting ready to hibernate, at which point they get more frequent.

I've occasionally soaked her twice a week in our rare periods of hot weather.

To be honest, I don't know that she needs it weekly but it gives me a chance to check her over and weigh her. It certaintly doesn't hurt
