I have a hermanns tortoise that is almost a year and a half. But in the last hour he has let out three rather loud squeaks. I have never heard him do this before. The first time he was just in my room exploring so i put him in his house but then he did it twice again. Everything else seems perfectly normal! Any advice please??

Well 1 and a half is the youngest he could be. He could be up to 2 and a half. Would that be old enough?

Good question. Seems like sexual maturity is more dependent on size than age. But the range for sexual maturity that I've come across is anywhere from 4-10 years. However, younger animals will still display sexual behaviours and young male tortoises may be shooting 'blanks', as they say.

So, yes...too young to be sexually mature...but not too young to start showing gender-based behaviours.
