I have Russian hatchlings that were born in June and July. I have them in a rubbermaid under the bed storage bin. I have half of the enclosure with moist coir substrate and I have ZooMed snake substrate (which is shredded aspen) on the other half. The coir side has their ZooMed mercury vapor bulb which I have pointed down toward the corner of the enclosure and the aspen side has a florescent bulb. They always go to sleep for the night buried in the shrdded aspen substrate. Would it be better for the hatchlings to have the whole enclosure with just the moist coir? They bury themselves under a fake plant and stay there for the night. I also have a fake plant on the other side of the enclosure where the coir is, but they do not want to sleep there. They like to hang out under the fake plant on the coir side during the day and like to lie under their mercury vapor bulb off and on during the day. They have a great appetite and are growing.

Any input would be appreciated. :)

Everything sounds fine to me. I think they are going to the aspen at night to escape from the heat, since the aspen is furthest from the heat.
