My trotty's shell is like this we have had her about 3 months now and had her checked by a vet and the vet didn't mention it? I'll keep an eye on this post now to see what others come back with. [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

I do put calcium power on her food a few times a week but other than that nothing. The vet didn't seem to think it was a problem so didn't tell me to do anything else.

What's the substrate she's been on and what's the routine for soaks? Do you know what the humidity level has been in her setup?

Hi my trottys substrate has been herbifloor (compressed grass pellets). She has grass hey hides she has a water dish in there that I've never seen her use but she's got one anyway. I soak her everyday for about 10-15 minutes. Am I doing anything wrong?? Her humidity is between 50-55.

I don't think that scute is a problem and will probably smooth out as baby gets older. The sully looks older than hatchling stage so hopefully less fragile. It is starting to pyramid just a little bit so if you do get it be sure to do soaks, maybe twice a day for at least 20 minutes and keep baby in a hot and humid environment so that it hydrates and can have a smooth shell. going forward. I like the color, very pretty! : )

Herbifloor is not a adequate substrate for a sulcata. Grass hay hides will not suffice and will eventually mold in a high humidity environment. If you would start a New Topic to discuss your husbandry I think you would get a lot of helpful input. It is best to do that right away and before problems begin.

I have done that thanks for your help. The reptile shop sold me everything I would need for her! Gutted now you've said it's all wrong! I hope I haven't damaged her in any way. I will be going into this reptile shop to have this out with them! Thanks again.

LJWarton88~ don't worry...sounds like you are doing an excellent job and your lil' one is fine:) I'm glad you found our forum because a lot of pet stores don't always provide the best education, especially for African torts. I would look through Tom's threads on caring for a Sulcata tortoise. You didn't damage her, as setting up a proper enclosure now with routine soaks will get her on her way to a very smooth shell:)

Also if you want to take a picture of your setup, we are all happy to help you with extra suggestions:) we have all been newbies at one point or another and I truly believe like most things, every tortoise owner will continue to learn more education on a daily basis, it's a lifelong journey of raising healthy tortoises.
