We have a sneaky sneaky Russian who will occasionally manage to escape from her outside area. I've contemplated putting a piece of bright duct tape on her so we can locate her more easily. Do you think the tape or adhesive would bother her? She loves being outside but we can hardly see through the Mosquitos here so we haven't been out all that much. Thanks!

Russians live to climb and dig and are exoert escape artists... as you are finding out.

Personally, I would stick nothing to the shell. I cannot see how duct tape would help and don't like the idea of anything damaging the shell.

Yes, duct tape is pretty adherent/sticky, and the shell is a living thing, in that it is growing.

I would keep analyzing your outdoor enclosure and blocking/sealing escape routes, adding corner caps of lips to the top edge, etc.

Don't stick anything to the tort. I have heard that tortoise shells are kind of like our fingernails.. Put a small piece of duct tape on your fingernail, stick it really good. Then peel it off, I bet it doesn't feel to well. Imagine you having to take it off of the poor tort. I wouldn't blame the tortoise for escaping, naturally any animal doesn't stay in one spot, they move around and like to explore, its instinct to try and escape something if they don't wish to be in there. work on escape routes and make it an "escape proof" area.
