I didn't know these existed until I joined this forum! :)

I picked up a Mastercraft one on the way home...even though it was 50% off it was still a tad expensive...so I will assume it's decent quality.

How accurate are they? It doesn't quite mesh with the digital thermometer. ..and when I went to test it out on a parrot it measured her as being 65°F. I'm pretty sure she's significantly warmer than that.

It's based on surface temps and can give odd readings based on the material. I've measured 95 on the caprice and 82 on the tortoise neck. If your gun was more than 15 bucks I'm sure it's very accurate. Keep in mind that the lazer you are seeing has nothing to do with reading the temp. It's only an approximation of where the gun is measuring. I can actually turn the red lazer on and off on my gun.

I trust my lazer over any gauges.

Thanks. I will have to play with it a bit more so I am using it properly!
