Okay, so in my terrarrium I have a plant, a basking slab, a hollow log for daisy to hide under, another plant hanging on the side, and most of the time the top of one of those Tupperware containers for a food "plate". Should I put in a triangular water bowl? I am asking because it is almost bigger than my tortoise (it is 1 1/2" deep, 4 1/2" wide, and 3 1/2" long) and I'm afraid that she'll go all the way into her shell, fall in, and drown. It has a little ramp that she could climb up, but just drops straight down, so if she falls in, I don't think she'll be able to climb back up. Can they swim? Im just asking because im terrified of her drowning! :( Also, what if she accidentally drags substrate into the water and drinks it? Will it harm her? It's just coconut fiber mixed with orchid soil... Sorry about all of the questions, I'm just so worried that something will happen while I'm at school and my parents at work... :(

Can you take a picture to better show us your concerns? You definitely don't want too deep of a water dish, especially for a baby. It should be deep enough for them to drink easily, and for them to soak (same water level as if you were soaking them in a bowl, to the edge of the shell).

In order to get a bowl big enough for my adult Hermann to fit in, I had to use a deep dish. So I made it shallower with some pieces of slate on the bottom - Problem solved!

I think the substrate getting in the water should be OK. In the wild, tortoises wouldn't be drinking perfectly clean water. But definitely spot clean if you can, and change the water as you normally would to keep it fresh.

Okay, here's the picture! I took the Tupperware and the plant out because the plant broke and daisy was done with her food

Eating substrate at times won't hurt. But tipping over in the water dish could be fatal.
What about getting a plastic plant pot base? They are usually shallow. Then the only issue will be her dragging substrate into it!
