I have gotten bitten! ):

So, I am going to get two turtles.. I am thinking Box turtles at the moment.. That isn't actually my question though.

Zac is digging me a creek/small pond. Do I need to line that with thick black plastic, a fish pond plastic container, or can I just line it with some rocks?

Which would be best?

I am sure I would have to line it with something, to keep the water in, keep the dirt down, etc..

Any ideas?

Just invest in pond liner. It is more expensive to start, but if you try to cheap out and use plastic or another substance you will have to change it in a few years, and that is a MAJOR pain.

You will most likely need to line it or it will just seep into the ground.

The good thing about the liner is you can make it the size and depth you want - which is important so your boxies won't drown. Good luck!

Laura, don't load up too heavily on pets before McKinlee arrives...not that she won't be a perfect child in every way but like any species, human babies are VERY time-consuming! More so than dogs, even...

Glad that Zac is getting all the enclosures in order. :D

I made a little stream and pond in my enclosure, and we lined the whole thing with pond liner...home depot...and then we put black cement. This way if the cement cracks you still have the liner underneath. It was a little too deep for Pio last year, so I put some river rocks to make it more shallow. This year I took them out. For my boxies....in progress now....I am making a bigger pond and a little deeper. I notice the boxies can swim, but Pio just sunk to the bottom, and I pulled him out before I could find out if he could swim. I would make it deeper, because you can always put some river rocks. Look at these pictures of this boxie enclosure. These are some of the best I've ever seen. I came across them while doing some research on enclosures.

I know, I know.. but I'm not working now, and have so much time just waiting around.. I get so lonely.. So my pets are like the only things I have to take care of right now.. When I have McKinlee I will still be able to care for them..

I have it all worked out in my head, well at least I think I do.. But when we get on a schedule, I will get daily routines down pat..

I don't know why, but I am just animal drawn lately.. Of course, I'm not buying anything.. Just maybe a few cresteds, and some boxies.. that will be it for me..
