Hi guys, so recently me and mg family and discussed getting a tortoise (Hermann) We have begun researching out about them and I have a few questions.
1) I live in England, it's cold what the safest way to keep a tortoise warm if I choose to house it outside?
2) Can tortoises be healthy in smaller than average 'terrariums' but spend most of the day outside the cage like in the garden
3) would a tortoise be happy having a average sized terrarium but have lots if time out of the cage to explore
4)What are the dangers of letting a tortoise roam within your home (supervised though) thanks in advance for you help, Luke! :)

1) The best way to keep a tortoise warm outside is to create a night box, which has heating, or making a slightly smaller enclosure indoors for overnight or winter.
2) If the garden is an enclosure, the tortoise should be able to spend days in the warmer months outside, weather permitting. It should be fine to be in a "terrarium" on cold days, or insufficient days for your tortoise to go outside.
3) A tortoise should have a big enough enclosure so that extra "exploring" isn't necessary. A secure, large enough enclosure should be available.
4) Dangers- eating hairs, eating other things not intended to be eaten, being stepped on, being hit by an opening/closing door (that almost happened to my tortoise, which made me stop "explorations"), and drafts/sickness are a few dangers of allowing your tortoise to roam your home.
