To hot?

The basking spot for my 5 month old sulcata is 102.4F, i dont ever see him on it. Is it to hot?

i believe the safe basking temperature for sulcatas is 100°-110°f. every tortoise is different, maybe he likes to take longer to warm up. as long as he is still eating, basking and acting normal, it is fine. if you notice him never going near the light I'd consider lowering the temp.

Not too hot. mine can get 115-120 directly under the bulb. My sulcata finds a spot that meets her needs and basks. sometimes its closer to the center of the hot spot and sometimes its a few inches away. I do keep it very very humid as well.

Often they hang out around the perimeter of the lit area. You can try lowering the temp a bit and see if his behavior changes. Also, if the rest of the enclosure is pretty warm, he might just not need to bask right now.
