Tortoise cave concerns (Exo-Terra)

We recently purchased Exo Terra's tortoise cave for my Hermann's tortoise as part of her indoor enclosure, and whilst I'm happy with the size of it, I have some concerns. It doesn't seem to have been sanded well, and when I run my finger alongside the inside of it, tiny pieces of plastic flake off. I'm reluctant to put it in her enclosure as is, but am wondering if I should either send it back (on the assumption that a replacement will not feature this problem), or sand it myself? Perhaps my fears of microplastic contamination in her enclosure are unwarranted, but I'd like to get a second (or third) opinion on it, all the same. :tort:👍

We’ve bought two of the exo terra caves in the past and didn’t have this issue, so I wonder if this is an unfortunate one off, or if the newer models aren’t as well made(it’s been some years since we got them) are you sure it’s plastic and not some dust residue from the factory? Perhaps you could try giving it a wash, but if the problem persists I’d maybe consider returning🐢💚
