I there my friend has just given me there tortoise been told it is a spur thigh and that it's coming up for 3 years.

Your tortoise is a Testudo gracea subspecies. Also known as a Greek tortoise. "Spur thigh" is a commonly used name to describe them too. You should be able to identify a small conical shaped scale on the back of the thigh of it's rear legs. Some tortoises of this group have more than one "spur" per leg, some only have one, even fewer have none at all.

using the term "spur thigh" can be confusing. Nowadays it is also used to describe African Sulcata tortoises. But the term was used to describe the Greek subpecies first. Sulcatas were originally called "Spurred tortoises".

I think I can see a spur on one leg, could it be an Testudo ibera?
