Hi everyone. Just a quick question. I have a 8mo old Greek tortoise and he is healthy as can be, although, this morning I noticed this on his shell scutes. They’re scutes but clear? Is this an early sign of MBD??? Or is this normal for growing scutes on a tortoise? They are clear.

I re-examined my baby tortoise. likewise; my baby tortoise has some clear scutes around the edges. We keep a piece of cuttlefish bone in the enclosure and Timmy has been chewing on it. The cuttlefish bone provides calcium for a growth and strength of the shell. The UV and basking lamps are vital to the tortoise's health controlled by thermostats from Zoomed. These lamps provide comfort to the cold blooded reptiles.

Agree growth . Ensure you hydrate ( regular water baths, fresh water available and wet food) and have correct lighting and heat to avoid any pyramiding.
Okay thank you! Everything I have is correct. Soaking 3-4 times a week right now and eating nothing but greens! Just wanted to make sure nothing bad is happening so I can take him to the vet etc! Thanks everyone for the help!

Provide a cuttlefish bone for calcium. Sometimes they chew it for vitamins

By the way, soak the tortoise with warm water. And when the water turns cold, exchange the colder water to warm again until excretion, generally about 20-30 minutes.
