Nice tortoise. But is that the permanent enclosure and substrate you're using? If so you may want to change substrate.

We've always used timothy hay but since my sulcata tortoise uses cypress mulch i was thinking of changing to that.

Topsoil or coco coor would be better for a russian tortoise. They like to burrow.

Totally agree with this substrate mix! Make it quite deep in different areas and sit back and watch the fun commence!! If you turn your back for 1 minute you'll be playing hide and seek :) your tortoise will be the winner! You can always put some Timothy grass in the hide but you'll notice your tortoise won't miss it!

I agree that coconut coir or top soil or cypress mulch would be a better option. Also, it looks like your tortoise might benefit from having its beak trimmed or at least filed down... it's rather overgrown. Here's a link that might help: http://tortaddiction.blogspot.com/2012/12/how-to-gently-file-tortoises-beak-video.html

What do you feed your tortoise? Do you supplement with vitamins or calcium? I know you have had your tortoise since you were a little girl... love the pic you posted in one of your other threads. :)
