I was keeping Anouk on straight aspen, since I got her a few weeks ago. I tried several different things to try and make a humid hide, but couldn't find something that was really going to work. And, being a worrier, I started to stress about pyramiding....
Also, she seems to really like the aspen....she prefers to burrow down instead of use her log hides, and I am not overly fond of the bed-a-beast and sand combo....
SO this is what I've done (pictures below, after the long winded explanation!)
I "upgraded" her into a 71 quart container, instead of the 41 quart she was in when I got her....She's so active during the day, I think its good for her to have some more room to stretch her legs. (also, it gives me more room to decorate!) I then changed about 1/3 of the enclosure to eco earth, to help with pyramiding. Plus, I think the larger enclosure will come in handy for the summer months, and allow for better micro climates. I also like the eco earth patch for this reason, because it will be a cool place to go, if she gets too warm...
Tomorrow, I will be mixing in organic top soil with the eco earth, and sprinkling down some broad leaf mix from Carolina pet supply, as well as a micro green mix; to help with humidity, and encourage grazing! (who doesn't like to snack, right?)
I've added more leaves along the edges of the new enclosure too...since she really seemed to like that one plant the best. I think she enjoys the cover...she has another new favorite spot already!
here are the pics, and the new setup is on the same table, so you can kind of see size wise, how much bigger it is!
(old setup)
(NEW setup
)
one of the NEW favorite spots to nap (that isn't underground!)
I'm also posting another thread in pictures....got some really cute ones in the last few days, but didn't think I should post them here....look for it!
Let me know what you think......if anyone wants more pics/explanation about the new digs, please don't be afraid to ask!
