Hi, I have a six year old female horsfield tortoise. In the last four weeks she has began dragging her back legs behind her. When i pick her up, she puts pressure against my hand and i can not see anything on her legs or feet, no cuts or swelling. She gets natural sunlight (when available) and artificial. She has a good diet of veg and leaves and her eyes are bright and her nose is clean. Please can anybody help... Thanks.

Hi Jill,
You need to get her to a vet and have an x-ray done. She could be egg bound, have a stone or have low bone density. These can all cause her to drag her back legs. An x-ray will help figure out whats going on.

Keep the tortoise very well hydrated (soaking and drinking). something similiar happened to a leopard tortoise of mine, and eventually over time if just got better, but it took awhile.
