Hey everyone,

I have been reading some post about compact UV B lamps. From what I understand, 10.0 UV B have been proven to be bad for the little guys eye's by releasing bad/lowest end of the UV B spectrum. However is this true for all the different levels of power (2.0 or 5.0).

Thanks,

Jake

Maybe we're talking apples and oranges, but I THINK the ones bad for eyes are the spiral bulbs, not the tube-type.

If you order more than $50 worth of stuff right now from Pet Mountain, they'll give you free shipping. Just use the discount code FREE at check-out. I just bought two UVB bulbs for $90 and the shipping was free.

I'm with Yvonne. I believe the issue is with ALL compact florescent bulbs (spiral-type). 10.0, 5.0, 2.0...I would stay away from them all. I would also stay away from the Zilla T-5 (very thin) tube bulbs as well. My redfoot went blind from it.

Stick to Mercury vapor bulbs (MVBs) and tube florescent bulbs.

I think the 10.0 had more reported problems, but there were some attributed to the 5.0. The problem was not with all CFLs, but with certain manufacturers. There have also been incidents involving tube type lamps. Mounting height and the type of reflector used are also significant factors to keep in mind.

Thanks everyone. I have a relatively new (2 weeks) Exo-Terra (coil) bulb, but am definitely going to return it. I haven't used it for a few days and just don't want to take the risk.

Could you recommend any good tube lights, the Mercury ones are just a little too expensive for me right now, but I want to provide a safe option for them.

Also, they (2 full grown adults) do have a part-time outdoor enclosure in sunlight which will be used a lot when it gets warmer.

Thanks,

Jake
