Hey all, was wondering if I really needed to shine a uvb light for 9 hours a day for my redfoot tortoise hatchling... around 3 months old. He never seems to stay in the light anyways and is hiding most of the day. I also read on turtletary that no uvb for the first 6 months is recommended, but does everyone here still provide uvb for their redfoot? Thanks!

I use a UVB lamp all day and mine hide as well. But when I soak them and sometimes when I feed them I put them in the sun....ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1403481646.767969.jpg

I don't use a UVB bulb. I use a plant & aquarium fluorescent bulb for my enclosure.

I don't use uvb. I take my tortoise outside for a minimum of 1 hour where e soaks in the sun and water and eats.
