Hello to all, I'd like to report that my tortoise is doing fine now, eating regularly, still a little fussy when I bathe and clean him, but otherwise well. Ive started Reeses on a regimen of Reptocal which has D3 in it. Ive read that D3 AND a UVB light are bad for a tortoise when used in conjunction due to toxicity. Is this right? If not, i'm planning on using this ESU Slimine light fixture. Any and all help are greatly appreciated. Thanks again so much for helping me out regarding Reeses' diet, I cant really thank you guys enough. On a separate note, how do you folks clean your babies around the vent area??

D3 is fat soluble and can be OD'd on though I'm not sure anyone knows what amount it would take to cause it.

I have several small tortoises under a UVB light which I only have on for about 5 hours a day. I have incandescent lights on them for about 12 hours a day and I use calcium with D3 several times a week...they seem to be growing fine and are active and healthy. I have a large Sulcata who is under a T-rex bulb for 12 hours a day and he gets a goodly amount of powdered calcium with D3...he is obnoxious and healthy...HTH

Place him in a bowl of warm water where he can't climb out. Have the water come only up to the middle of his side where the top meets the bottom (called the bridge). Just let him soak there for about 15 minutes. After the soak, take a Q-tip and gently brush away any debris. If the baby is very dirty it may take a couple soaks to get him clean. If your baby has real loose stool, it is probably being fed too many wet greens. Try cutting up some hay or grass into small bites and mix it in with the food.

(In a tortoise, the vent is called the cloaca)
