my redfooted tortoise keeps getting into and mowing down on my moms 'black magic' viola's. she eats alot of them, i just wanted to make sure that this type of plant is ok for her to eat

It's excellant food and my RFs and other torts get it as a major part of summer diet.

I'm pretty sure all varieties of pansies are edible...I know they are for humans.

Yes, planting some would be good and also some around the outside as the ones she has access to will quickly disappear (they will come back from roots). My herd (five) wiped out a 64 square foot area of wood violets in one week.
