My male leopard tortoise usually releases this substance before he poops. His poops are normal. I thought it was urates but it's slimy looking...

My leopards have urates that look like that sometimes, but white. Is the color just off in photo?

He hasn't been checked for them. Appetite is the same as ever.

Parasites would likely make him eat more, as they rob the nutrients from then food/tortoise.

Is he growing at a decent rate?

Yeah, I'd say. I recently upgraded his enclosure and his activity and eating has been up since that but i believe it's because it's new and the temps are not evenly warm. Maybe i will schedule a vet visit ... I'm hesitant because it is 2 hours away >.<

I wonder if @Yvonne G or @Tom would have some ideas before you head to the vet. How often is he passing this substance and what is his diet?

I've noticed it in his 3 past baths. This past month he's eaten collard, mustard, dandelion greens, escarole, endive and mazuri twice a week. I've also noticed in his baths he's been flashing his stuff a lot.
