Hello tortoise fans! I am an animal fanatic. I have 3 dogs, 2 parrots, & 3 ornate boxies.

My neighbor is moving & gave me their son's pet tortoise. They don't know just what he/she is & neither do I.

Please ID this adorable tortoise...thank you

Marginated. I used to have one named Rosie who looked just like that

Something from Testudo. Most likely a Hermann's or Marginated. How'd you get it?

If they didn't know what kind it was, how did they take care of it?

Hi Suzyszoo:

Welcome to the Forum!!

I'm not good at I.D.ing the mediterranean species of tortoise, however, I THINK that the marginated has lighter coastal scutes, and more of a flare to the lower edge of the carapace. I'm guessing Hermann's. GBTortoises is very good at this I.D. game. I'll send him a PM.

Your tortoise is a Middle Eastern Greek subspecies, Testudo graeca ssp.. From the one photo, most likely an Antakyan Greek, or as some now prefer, either Ibera (middle range race) or Terrestris.

Welcome to the forum! I'll let the experts help with identifying your new pet. I'm glad your first priority is finding out what you have, because if you don't, how do you properly care for it? Enjoy your new friend.
