Why do some make mating calls?

Who says,they are deaf? They are not. I don't know what you mean by mating call though. When they are mating, they make moaning like noises, but a mating call, as I have always known it to be, is to call a mate in so,they can breeding.
I had been reading they are deaf but can feel vibrations in the ground from walking tho so I thought it meant deaf. And I mean while they were mating.
I don't know,why they make the noise. I just think it's too funny though, it always cracks me up
