Hi this is a picture of when I first got my sulcata about 2months ago, I know he has a little bit of pyramiding but I was wondering why its white between each part of his shell its not as bad now but just wondering if its because he was very dry when I got him and how can I make his. shell look nicer

How to often are you soaking him, and what is your humidity set at? What is your enclosure like?

Not sure what my humidity is just ordered a humidity reader!! But he's on coco fibre which I know is good for humidity and has a humid hide with sphagnum moss and is soaked every day, he's in a vivarium
It is not as bad now, the breeder had him on sand but it is still there, I also find his head often looks dry?

Read Toms threads below in my post. When you get the humidity gauge, then get him housed with the higher humidity and correct temps and it probably will start looking even less dry.

I hope so as I see so many on here with lovely shells, I must be doing something right as is getting better :) but want his shell to look as best as it can as he's my baby!!! So want to make sure I do everything I can for a healthy tortoise
So do you think the white Is from being too dry? Thanks for your advice :)

Some new growth lines are white, but I usually see dry shells with white lines. Continue doing soaks and keep the humidity up and you'll notice a difference!

It looks like hard water stains to me. Mineral deposits from the water your soaking him in. If you are using tap water or well water that is normal and wont hurt the tort.

Thanks for all your replys, will see if I can make a differents over the next few weeks and go from there, also does worry me his pyramiding as the breeder did keep them in quite dry condition but hoping I have learnt enough to stop it getting worst
