I am curious ... With keeping a humid enclosure if it makes sense to be concerned with mold . My 3 yr old tort has been sick pretty much since I got her but has progressively got worse. I have only had her a few months now. We have been to the vet and will be returning tomorrow for more test.
I built her enclosure out of an old dresser but started wondering if it is possible that the wood/material may be molding from the moisture and could be part of the problem. I went out and bought a 50 gallon plastic container and am going to set that up today . I know she needs a enclosure as big a possible but for now I want to keep her warm and humid to help try and get her healthy. Anyway , am I crazy to think the original enclosure could be part of the problem? I plan to throw every thing away! How do you keep the substrate from getting mold? Any advice would be great:) to those of you who keep answering all my questions...thank you! I just want this poor baby to get healthy and enjoy a good life since its clear she has not been properly cared for before I found her:/

If you do not mix your substrate it can lead to it. Also of it is made out of wood and you don't treat it. I left my water bowl in one time and about a week later there was white fuzz growing. I did an emergency substrate change.

I had some wheat berries growing in her enclosure so I never mixed that part :( there is some mold in that area...I better find a new way to keep fresh grass in her enclosure.
