man guys this week hasnt been a good week for me and my torts. first, one of my russians die! then i loose a brand new hingeback i bought. ive spend countless hrs looking for it! and nothing. i feel like crap. im selling 3-4 russians this week.
I'm so sorry, Jasso. We've all had things like that happen, so we can all sympathize with you. Its not pleasant to say the least! But before you sell (if that's the reason you're selling), take a really close look at your husbandry and your pens, and make adjustments where they are needed. What did the Russian die of? And I haven't heard this said about hinge backs, but it is my opinion that they are just as good at escaping as the little Russians are. Don't beat yourself up about it...learn from it.
Don't give up on your hingeback. We had rain for almost a week straight here and my redfoots were even hiding from the downpour. I was feeding them and couldn't find one for the life of me and she being the gluttonous pig she is never came to eat which sent me into panic mode I frantically searched the entire enclosure to no avail. Then 2 days later I moved a piece of wood and noticed the sphagnum was really loose under it I dug about 3 inches down and there was my missing girl. the non digging redfoot being buried for at least 3 days. So don't give up hope they are masters of hiding.
So sorry to hear about your Russian. Sadly, sometimes things happen and we feel hopeless. Try not to let it get you down. Hope you can find your hingeback.
thanks guys! ill continue my search today, hopefully the hingeback is hiding somewhere within my yard. dont want to keep looking in my neighbors yard. ill also put up signs today. thank you all again.
hey guys great news! we found my hingeback!! so insane i searched my yard for 3 hrs, inch by inch (like 6 times) and today it happened to be there. it was raining today. wow....they sure know how to hide super well....wish i knew where he was at. . thanks again for the support! thats it, everyone is going back in there inside pens.
Glad you found the hingeback. Now you just need to go over it and find areas where maybe the tort could have gotten out at. Sorry about the
Russian, but sometimes unexplained things happen, just like with people. I know it hurts and your filled with "what ifs" and "if onlys", that's natural, too.
Death should be looked at as a learning and re-evaluating time, then move on to the future.
I'm so sorry for your loss of your russian. I am so glad you found your hingeback, torts are great at hiding, I loose them all the time in there pens, and then they reappear.
