Newbie,
Lots of questions, love my newly adopted 13 yr old Texas tortoise.
Not a lot of info on this species.
My grandson isn’t allowed to have pets at home, so Grammy adopts them all so he has the enjoyment of them when he is here. What a joy !
1st question: how active should speedy
( our tortoise) be during the day. So they sleep a lot?
I was recommended to you to see if you could help me with my Red Foot. I found a firm knot on my Red Foot tortoise's neck while he was eating this morning I waited about an hour to check him again and it is still there. Overlook the berry mess from his meal. He is still eating and seems perky. I can provide pictures. I just do not see where to attach here.

Hi. I hope you don't mind my asking for advice. I have a huge adult male sulcata. Probably about 15 yrs old. I don't know if he is underweight or just fine. I saw calculations for weight in grams compared to shell length, I can't even pick this guy up! He seems healthy, eats well, stumps around. Is there any other way to tell if he is over/under weight? Can I pinch his arm or look for a double chin? Jk
I am still learning but I am interested in a yearling or young adult, male Russian tortoise. Any available or know of a good source for captive bred ones? Also, would a typical Russian tortoise be ok as a classroom pet with young but respectful kids? I would not want to stress any animal. I have an indoor habitat that is 3 x 5 feet and am eventually looking to make larger and outdoor ones.
Something none tortoise related, but I thought it’d be nice to post some of my favourite photos of our Boa constrictor🐍who sadly passed a week yesterday, she was a gorgeous snake💚 Young Bo🥹 She belongs to my mom’s partner, he’d already had her a long time before they met, so I never saw her...
Passionate keeper and protector of the majestic yellow-footed, red-footed, and sulcata tortoises. My mission? To ensure these incredible creatures thrive in their outdoor habitats, with love, respect, and expert care.
Hi Tom, I’ve seen your posts on making the box enclosures. I’m going to sit down when I have more time and write it all out, but I have like -0 carpentry skills. Do you have a very detailed guide, easy step by step of how to make a 4x4 enclosure for a sulcata tortoise in so cal? Do you sell them? My guy is only 2 years old right now.
Hi, can you tell me the composition of pellets that are good for sulcata??, and what are the characteristics of a sulcata affected by bladder stones? And do sulcatas have to excrete urate every day? Because my tortoise releases urates only 1-2x a week. Sometimes within a week it doesn't produce urates at all.
Sadly Bo passed away in her sleep yesterday morningshe was unfortunately taking a rapid decline despite us trying everything, we were in the process of discussing the kindest next steps with the vet and booking her in, but ultimately she decided her own fate like the strong willed girl she was. I’m trying to take solace in the fact that she’s finally at peace, fly high sweet girl
