Well, maybe it's genetic. My great grandparents are from Inverness. Is that close enough? LOL

I'm in Oregon now, lots of Scots settled here...and I can see why after I spent 2 months in Scotland...very similar climate and flora. Was really weird to travel that far and have everything look exactly the same.

Lol well I guess it's only a few hours away ;)
I didn't realise the climate was similar there, it just feels like its always grey here but can't complain we saw a few weeks of sun this year!

I was born in Aberdeen, but I moved down to Edinburgh a few years ago when I started uni. My family are still up there though - my sister lives near the beach and my parents are out at Insch (about 30 miles towards Inverness). I've thought about moving back a couple of times, but there's always been something keeping me down here. Maybe one day I'll make it back...

I'm down in SW England, but if you go on the Shelled Warriors Forum there are a lot of keepers round your way.

I'm on shelled warriors, found 2 people on there. The two shops here that sell tortoises seem to get in fairly regularly so there must be dozens of keepers!

I'm sure there are. Loads of people round here seem to have them, but maybe only 5%-if that- are on any of the forums.

Hey. I'm living in Kemnay! I have a 3 year old Hermanns called Peaches( kids named her). She is indoors all the time. Living in a homemade enclosure I knocked up myself. She has had a fair amount of time outside this year with the decent summer we've had but I'm sure her fun is over for this year! She does get free reign of the house when the youngest kid is bed, so he doesn't try to ride her! ImageUploadedByTortForum1381500508.569262.jpg

Aww yay HI :)
Yeah it is pretty chilly here now but the few weeks of sun this year was great. My 3 Russians live indoors too but I took them out whenever it was warm enough.
Thanks for replying nice to see a local :)

No problem. I relatively new to the tort keeping scene but done plenty homework first so I kinda have a good idea what I'm doing. I'm in the process of drawing up a second level for the enclosure. Will cover about half the length and have a ramp, just to keep Peaches active. My fiancée is scared of her, won't pick her up at all and even runs when she is out on her travels, so when I'm offshore the extra space will give her exercise. Hope to get it done this weekend. Whereabouts do you live? I don't know many folk around here with torts.

Aww how long have you had peaches? Maybe your fiancée will get used to her with time :)
I live right in the city centre, not too far from the Bon accord centre. I don't have a garden at the moment but I'm hoping to move in the next year and the top of the list for house shopping is tortoise space lol when I have room I would like to start a little tort sanctuary :) .
In my flat I was running low on space so the torts have a huge three tier enclosure (one level each though as I have a horny male).
I bet peaches will love her new level once she gets confident with the ramp :)

We've had her for about 7 months now. She is really easy to handle and loves attention. My baby, Zakk, loves feeding her too. And he chases her round the house when she is off on her walkabouts! I've got the wood all measured up, just waiting on my buddy cutting it the morn. He has a circular saw so will get neater edges. I'm thinking of painting it camo too just to brighten it up a bit. My fiancée just ain't an animal person. She hates me watching Gator Boys as she can't understand why anyone would care about reptiles. And my brother-in-law had to get me a replacement heat lamp when I was offshore as my missus refuses to go into Waterworld due to the snakes right next to the door. I on the other hand treat the shop like Toys-R-Us!!!

Here is my baby playing with Peaches.

Haha I know! That's exciting aberdeen for ya lol
Love the collage of peaches :) did you buy her locally?
I went to Dundee for Harley and Perth for yoshi and River, I'm not too overly hot on the way waterworld and A1 aquatics keep their torts. In saying that I've been close to buying from them a few times because I just want to rescue them <3

Hey. I got her through a friend of mine in Bridge Of Don called David. He is also known locally as The Critter Keeper, he has a large collection of beasts, including a tortoise, Royal Python, Sugar Gliders, Tarantulas, African Snails, Bearded Dragon etc. he does school visits, fairs etc. I met him through Facebook, and I arranged for him to visit my sons school. I helped him during the day, just moving all his beasts into the school and setting them up, and I mentioned I wanted to get a tortoise. Well....after a few weeks he contacted me to say he was taking in a rescued tort , but couldn't keep her as he already had a different species, so he asked if I wanted to re house her. I jumped at the chance! She had been found wandering 3 years earlier and the other person looked after her, but needed to get rid. I was more than chuffed to take her. So I looked online at different enclosures and decided to build her one myself. And voila! 7 months later she is 100g heavier and 2 1/2 inches longer. And looking great!

As for the collage, that was an app called PicCollage [THUMBS UP SIGN]

And yeah I agree about Waterworld, the torts look bored out of their minds in that massive tank with just a couple of stones to crawl across. No obstacles of features to break up their line of sight...not good.
