Someone gifted me this tortoise so i exactly don't know know it's species but he is a male for sure. From last 2 3 days he is very active and behaving differently he comes before me, i am scared he might bite, he i guess even offered his nose to me too. His shell on upper side near his neck is having a slight red dots, which is definitely not any color. I thought he was dehydrated as his skin was white so I kept him in water for like 1 hr so the white scales disappeared but the red spots didn't. He is eating good, drinking nicely as i see but sleeping less than usual and is pretty active as whenever I carry him he starts walking in my hand. It's a bit concerning.

Can you please add some photos so we may give you the correct care for the type of tortoise

This is a soft shell turtle and he belongs in water. He's actively trying to escape to find a stream or pond to live in. They are very aquatic, hardly ever coming out of the water to sunbathe. Carnivorous. ANd they can't eat unless they're in water.

They require a soft, sandy substrate and ultra-clean water. Soft-shelled turtles spend a great deal of time buried in the sandy bottoms of rivers and therefore enjoy this activity in captivity. Use of the finest grade of sandblasting sand or thoroughly rinsed play or river sand is recommended.

Looks like something may have bitten off his nose. Here's what an Indian soft shell looks like:

So there isn't anything to worry, right? Just I need to put him in water and use required enviornment.
