Cold frame peeling, possibly plastic eaten

My Russian tortoise Edward has been hard at work at the cold frame of his outdoor enclosure. He has made this hole in the plastic coating today morning or yesterday night.

I wonder whether might have eaten some of the plastic coating? You think it could be taped up or is the cold frame too hazardous for him to use?

Goodness me Edward was busy! Correct me if I’m wrong, but this looks like some sort of plastic protection over the actual hard plastic? In which case I’d just peal all that off and still use it, doubt he’d nibble the hard stuff🙂

Oh yeah, it is some sort of coating in it, I will see how easily it comes of...

I noticed that underneath the plastic coating Edward was able to make these depressions with his claws, so to a certain point the coating seems to protect the plastic. For now I detached the affected panel and turned the damaged area facing outwards, while I think about whether or not peel the whole thing of.

I have been thinking, do I need a sight barrier to reduce scratching?

As long as I have had him, he has always tried to escape at least daily, but I do try to make his enclosures both indoors and out with his attempt in mind. He just always tends to figure out new ways to try and escape, and even though he can't get out, I fear he hurts himself one day. I guess this is just what it is like owning a wild caught Russian.

I doubt he can really see through the cold frame properly, I’d say it for fencing yeah, but I don’t think it’d make a difference here, I guess you could try, but I reckon it’s his sassy Russian spirit, they’re constantly planning their escape😂

If he is eating that it could block his digestive system and he has serious problems. Also it could be toxic.
Peel all of that stuff off or replace it. No other choice really.
