Yeah you are going to want to stay away from that glass, a white sheet or other cover on the outside will help it from becoming heat soaked and just turning into a furnace. We also had 140F on the sun side of our front door. The inside was 70 degrees cooler! The edge of the European heatwave has hit south Finland today but it is not here where I live yet. It should be a little milder when it hits here tomorrow and the day after. I maybe should consider getting a fan since I don't own one.
I live in a studio apartment and don't have any windows I can just crack open, but I can open the door to my glass balcony. Only problem is that the balcony is like a greenhouse with the glass panels closed and it easily heats up. Last summer I was away during a heatwave and left all the panels closed. When I came home, the thermometer on the balcony read 60 c, that is 140 F. It was like a children's sauna in there!
I think the situation will be a bit better here than the UK, as many features about our buildings and public transport that are for extreme cold also help with extreme heat.
It sounds like it to me too, AC is not that widespread here in Finland but it sounds like it is even less so in the UK! No AC on public transport or at the dentist sounds crazy to me.I need to ask you guys across the pond. Isn't air conditioning widespread over there? I glean from the comments that AC isn't very widely enjoyed in the UK. Am I drawing the wrong conclusion?
Are you guys feeling natural climate shift all at once or did something else prevent the use of AC by everyone??
I feel a little guilty since my garage is air conditioned as well as my shed. Heck we just drove our car around for a week in the deep South in June with a freezer set at -2F running 24/7!
I rent and I am guessing that is against the rules, but I would have to check. I think you will get it over there, I have heard you have HOAs that can be very particular about the outward appearance!Yeah you are going to want to stay away from that glass, a white sheet or other cover on the outside will help it from becoming heat soaked and just turning into a furnace.
I was thinking of getting just one of those cheap table top ones, as I won't be using it much in the big picture. My plan looking at the forecast is to pull cold air from outside in order to cool down my apartment at night and during the day to close all curtains and keep the balcony door closed.Good afternoon everyone!
We last night we had another thunderstorm which put my internet out and it is fresher today. Edward is it worth getting a fan? Jeff the buildings here are designed for the cold so we don't have air conditioning in the houses but I have a fan in the lounge and in the bedroom.

That is what I have been doing for years, some habits are hard to change. I had a heat pump system put in, and have the Tstat set fairly high for cooling, and still use fans at night and early morning to cool the house off, before the day gets hot.I was thinking of getting just one of those cheap table top ones, as I won't be using it much in the big picture. Of course this won't work if there is no temperature drop during the night.
Nope! Some buildings have it usually those open to the public like Supermarkets etc but not most homes. I think we are going to have to invest in it if our weather continues on a warmer trajectory.I need to ask you guys across the pond. Isn't air conditioning widespread over there?
