My Buddy/old coworker Jeff, came over on Wednesday, and attacked it.. He was a tool repair person for the contractor on the Golden Gate Bridge Retrofit years ago, before coming to the West County Wastewater District.
So , , , he had a couple of air impacts, one being a 3/4" with a 1/2" adapter, if needed (it was big, and would have been a chore to hold it up) I also Moved my compressor from my patio to the front where I was working on the truck. 100' less of air hose to slow the Impact driver. I had picked up the 1/2" drive, 13mm swivel Impact and an air hammer attachment just in case. I had shot the bolts with a lil Rust Blaster earlier, and by the time we attacked it . . . don't know if I was in a better position, better attitude (Gr'rrr) or what but they both came out a whole lot better than the previous attempt, Thank you very much (lord) That only took an Hour . . .

Then having to extricate the transmission out from under the truck tool another hour and a half. The exhaust pipe section from the header that had the catalitic converter was in the way, had to push up, pull down, push to the side, pry, move . . .but it finally came out. Hit the bolts on the manifold and back section of the Cat exhaust pipe with some rust Blaster. I'm gonna take that section out, because putting the transmission in will be harder than taking it out (NO Gravity assist). Pulled the clutch and flywheel the next day. Took flywheel to the Machine shop to resurface ($60 deposit) and ordered a new rear main seal (Has been weeping for 15 years) and new slave cylinder..Today, gonna try pressure washing Transmission, Lower engine area, prep for reinstall....I'm realizing . . . I'm too old for this....Last clutch I DO! No Hurry, just . . . taking my time.
BTW< had my Lung Function Test results on Friday . . .can anyone read hieroglyphics? 10 different charts w/values and technical explanation, and have NO clue as to what they mean . . .why do they do that?

Yes take your time. You'll get it eventually. I'm glad you have help though. Two heads are better than one. So especially is the 2 extra muscles.

how much time driving did all that add to the drive time? But I'm kinda glad you had a detour around Cincinnati. I hate the bridge going north through there. I hope you got to miss all that craziness.

It added about 1 1/2 hrs. It was backed up before the bridge but traffic was moving slowly. Really the 6 miles on the dirt roads was the worst. Old country roads all wash-boarded out. Made for a uncomfortable ride.Wow
Today was a total rest day.
I know how you feel. In the last 5 years or so. I have come across a situation where I fixed it, but it is on the call a repairman next time.
After listening to MG's saga....all i can say is thanks MG, I don't feel so alone anymore. My projects always seem to spend some time in the outhouse before getting resolved.

This is the shielded circuit board for my front yard robot mower base station. It is supposed to send a signal out the green connector to my perimeter wire to tell the robot to stay inside. It doesn't work anymore. It is NLA and hasn't been made in years. We learned this AFTER replacing the thin perimeter wire with thick expensive wire.
BUT....i met a retired senior level FAA inspector several years ago who is brilliant in all things electrical and structural. He also has a well supplied shop in his back yard. Im taking my circuit board over to his house this morning and we will see if we can find and fix the fault. The guy is Kerry's 95 year old dads cousin who lived only a mile or two from my old house! Small world!

Remember that portable AC unit we had lent out? Well it came home and we put it back in an upstairs closet after our trip.
Yesterday we get a call from neighbors...their AC died and the guy won't be out till Friday. It's supposed to be 101F tomorrow.
So we dragged it back downstairs and into the truck. I told Kerry after we got home from setting it up for them. "Maybe we should store it in my shed instead of upstairs?" LOL it weighs about the same as MGs transmission!

Looks like you've got yourself a reputation as the go to man for a/c loans. I wish I had neighbours like you.
THAT is the one talent/capability I wish I had. Being able to troubleshoot circuit boards.
I'm good, but NOT that good. I'm on NextDoor, as a Lead for my neighborhood. I keep an eye out for folks that have broken stuff that they need help with, I have worked on refrigerators, attic fans and one person who had a broken electric lawn mower. I went to their house to see if I could fix it, problem was not readily visible so I brought it home . . Under the cover was FILLED with grass clippings. Not Good. Not much inside a electric lawn mower, but found that the rectifier had failed. A rectifier takes AC and converts it to DC for the motor. Went online, amazon had 2 for $8.00, Bingo. Purchased and installed, and fired that puppy up, and sent the owner a video, she was quite happy to have her lawnmower back again....(couldn't afford to buy a new one at the time)....Cost her $8.00 for the repair....

I used to be that go to guy. After the accident I quit getting calls. Showed me who my friends really where. I am on NextDoor also. I have given advice but many times a person needs something fixed but I am not capable of doing it now. It bums me out when I read those posts. Now I just call @jeff kushner to drive down from Maryland to Florida to get fix things around the house
