Hi, I'm looking to buy these two tortoises. Do they look healthy? I'm not sure if there's some pyramiding or it's just the colouring. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks.

Looks like slight pyramiding. Doesn't necessarily mean they aren't healthy now though.

I don't know what the circumstances here are, but I would suggest that you only get one tortoise instead of both. The slight pyramiding wouldn't hold me back.

Tortoises don't do well in pairs. Often one is subtly bullied and does not grow and thrive.

Thanks for your replies.

The person selling them doesn't want to split them up. They have been sold to someone else now!

I'm sorry to hear that. But keep looking and you'll find one that will be great for you. Or if you find to just make two enclosures :) I know there are many members here that sell tortoises so maybe check out the for sale section. Good luck.

Thanks, but I live in New Zealand and I'm not allowed to import. Tortoises here are quite hard to come by and cost an absolute fortune. I'll just keep waiting for the next one to appear.

Thanks for the help and advice though. This forum is very useful to beginners.

We might have some New Zealand members that could help you out.

I know that the photo wasn't of your enclosure. Don't place small stones like that in your own set-up. (Tortoises love to swallow stones.) Congratulations!

They look lovely ,try not to spoil them with too much food.
The only sign I ever saw of slight pyramiding ( which you don't have ) is in a lazy female who doesn't get enough exercise:D
