Last Sunday I had a houseguest who unknowingly put one of my tortoises into another tortoise’s enclosure. I only found out after they’d had all day to fight. Poor Diego lost the fight and has several wounds on his front legs and one on his face. They aren't terrible and I know tortoises are...
Nope. No flowers yet. I’ve moved to the high desert in Central Oregon and many of the weeds are different. I used a plant app on my phone and it said it was in the aster/daisy family but I haven’t had great luck with those apps.
Pops has a new smile! I broke off the piece that had lifted and trimmed the other side and some jagged spots with cuticle clippers. He’s as handsome as ever. Thanks for the help.
Thanks Yvonne!
I’ll do that tomorrow when he’s awake again. I didn’t realize that side part of the beak should be trimmed. I trimmed the front when I first got him because it was very long and I feed them on flat rocks to keep the beak filed down but the side just wasn’t on my radar. I learned...
Hi all! I could use some advice. One of my tortoises has done something to his face. I’m not quite sure if the part in question is his beak or adjacent scale but it has been lifted up. When I push down it doesn’t move back in place. If I lift up a bit it is loose in the upward direction. This...
We are having a record breaking warm and dry fall but that could change anytime and will. It’s sunny and in the 70’s with night time temps at about 50. Normally it would be raining daily, no sun and highs in the 60’s. Sooo… at least that is on our side for the moment. 10 day forecast looks...
Yes of course this is what she is doing now but she needs a backup plan right away and probably even while the owners are being looked for since it’s a large, strong tortoise and it’s October… it’s not easy to temporarily house a Sulcata if you’re not set up to do so.
Someone I know just found a Sulcata and I managed to convince her to take the tortoise and try to find a good home for him. He’s not full grown but nearly so it’s a lot to suddenly have a big Sulcata. We live in Portland, Oregon. Does anyone know of a resource to get some help rehoming him? A...
Hi all! A friend sent me a photo of a wild turtle laying eggs near his local pond in Nevada City, California. Can anyone identify this beauty? Are they native? My friend said the pond is full of them!
Ah yes! Lamb’s quarter is exactly what I was thinking of. I knew it had an animal in the name. Too bad it’s nightshade and not lambs quarter though. Thank you!
Hi all!
Its been a while since I’ve been on the forum. Life has been busy.
Could anyone help me ID this plant? I think I used to feed it to my tortoises and then I didn’t see it around for a couple years. I’ve forgotten the name and I want to make sure that it’s the one I’m thinking of. Thanks!
