Hi all! I could use some advice. One of my tortoises has done something to his face. I’m not quite sure if the part in question is his beak or adjacent scale but it has been lifted up. When I push down it doesn’t move back in place. If I lift up a bit it is loose in the upward direction. This seems like it could get a lot worse if he catches it on something, right? What should I do?

Beaks sometimes tend to break off when allowed to get a bit too long. Try to wiggle it up and down and finish the breaking off process.

Thanks Yvonne!
I’ll do that tomorrow when he’s awake again. I didn’t realize that side part of the beak should be trimmed. I trimmed the front when I first got him because it was very long and I feed them on flat rocks to keep the beak filed down but the side just wasn’t on my radar. I learned something new. Thank you!

Their beaks are constantly growing and flaking off. This flake looks like it could use some help. ;) Even my leopard tortoise who grazes naturally outdoors needs help from time to time. :tort: 👍

Pops has a new smile! I broke off the piece that had lifted and trimmed the other side and some jagged spots with cuticle clippers. He’s as handsome as ever. Thanks for the help. CDEDAB85-AD79-409F-82CC-717ABD9E992E.jpeg
