I tried the LS mine doesn’t care for itUpdate - Mikey swapped from mazuri original to mazuri LS with no problem at all, I'd say he likes it better.

Hi presumably you need a field to keep a sulcata.... they're not really garden tortoises are they? I would love one but live in a town with a town- size garden. I think I would be looking for a new home for it after 5 or so years?A couple years back Tom and I split up a clutch...he raised half his way...I did it my way. While Tom's did fluorish...nothing could prepare me for what happened with mine! Here's the thread in all it's glory for you to peruse...study...dissect! In a nutshell, I took ALL of these babies from 30 grams to 3 and 4 pounds in just the first year! And guess what?!?!? Tom and I are talking about doing it again! To be continued...

Yes you do. Stump is almost 12” carapace length at 1yr, 4months. Today was back yard for 3 hours in an enclosed 100’x150’ then I let him out of the back gate for 4 hours. Left the corner of the fence here where it is usually blocked off.Hi presumably you need a field to keep a sulcata.... they're not really garden tortoises are they? Hey Steve. Update on your tort plzI realize this is old but going by the title and the thread's location on the page I assume it's a place to share age and growth rates.
Mine is approximately 3 months old and has started gaining weight and size quick. He is at 96 grams now and 10 of that has been added in 4 days, 20 were gained in the 7 days before that.
Today after he soaked and relieved himself he was at 96 grams and 2⅞" (7.3 cm).
Yes, they need a huge space which is bulldozer proof. They don't hibernate so with our UK climate also need a large, heated indoor space like an indoor room or a large heated insulated shed to spend the winter or colder wet summer days in. Not a cheap or easy option.Hi presumably you need a field to keep a sulcata.... they're not really garden tortoises are they? I would love one but live in a town with a town- size garden. Holy Cats that is a fast growth weight. Tell us about his diet.View attachment 196175 This graph of our sully's weight over time graphically illustrates the growth as well! Eat, sleep and grow........
So like the attached chart, Stump is 47lbs and just shy of 20" long @ 2yrs and 7mo. Diet is the size of his shell daily, grass, mulberry, hibiscus, weeds, greens (18" pizza pan 4" tall) before bed. Morning is another salad before he goes outside to graze and do other tortoise stuff.Holy Cats that is a fast growth weight. Tell us about his diet.

I usually pick a "flavor" for the day for his salads and get dried cactus, etc. from the link above.
Fortunately we have a mulberry tree in our next door neighbors yard so in season we get leaves and berries that he eats off the ground for those few weeks.
We seed the yard every fall and new grass grows in and we happen to have green grass for more than 11 months out of the year here in south central PA. This guy went to the fair today with all the kids off school. Hundreds of them. He had a great time. If you look close you can see our small one to the right of Stump.

Such a handsome boy!wow!! My little Maximus must be a "Pygmy" Sulcata .. he's only grown a little in past 14 months. I'm in no hurry but a little quicker growth would be nice. That's a 6" dish he's sitting in.

interestingly, i made a quick comparison of data with stump as i saw my tortoise start with a 125g data point, and the growth is so similar! This is such a good reference. Mine retains a lot of gut load so it’s probably sitting on the same graph line after a poop!View attachment 353477
Stump is approaching 3lbs in month 11. Mazuri LS SMALL TORTOISE FOR THE FIRST YEAR. Stump started half LS and half SMALL tortoise in month 9.
View attachment 353478
As you see on the right, if growth stays steady, should be about 15lbs in the fall. We'll see...
Notice how the weight becomes quicker as the size is a steady increase?

I would also encourage making a simple food calculator to let you know how much to set out by weight.
A quick comparison of dimensions, where mine grow wider, yours became taller, but the lengths stayed similar for the similar weight. This is so interesting , it’s almost like a good peek into the future of my tortoise!View attachment 353477
