Thank everyone who commented on the post I made on Joshua Tree Reptile Heaven 🤗 Thank you all for your input!
I just left Petco very disappointed. The baby RF got moved to the back. I found the manager and asked why the temperature in the tank was 68F (I didn't see it yesterday, I was already shocked how the poor baby was kept). The manager shrugged his head and said that something happened with the heating lamp. I told him that I was going to buy the tortoise but since it's in a back they couldn't sell him/her. I was told to check it tomorrow.
So.... I bought the enclosure that should work for a couple of months. I cross my fingers that the baby will make it till tomorrow. I know those questions were asked and answered 159000 times already. But what substrate should I use since it's a tiny tortoise? I have tons of orchid bark. Would it be okay? Or I need something else?
Again, big thank to everyone!!!!!

I think you should buy a brick or two of coco coir (Eco Earth is usually available in those pet stores) and rehydrate it well with water. Then use that as a base to keep humidity up for the baby and put an inch or two of the orchid bark over it so the baby isn't sitting on wet coco coir constantly. Redfoots like it warm and humid, so keep the temp at about 85F and the humidity almost the same. Give the baby lots of places to hide (plants) and not too much bright light.

Good luck!

What a beautiful carapace! I see a growth spurt happening!
I also saw that PetSmart is no longer selling tortoises. Hopefully Petco follows their lead.

There is a lot of interesting points in the article, I think you should make a post about it in our news section:

Great news!

However, World Animal Protection group is tad too "aggressive" in their statements... Similar key points repeatedly brought up in their posts:

* 92% of PetSmart’s Canadian customers expressed concern that selling reptiles and amphibians as pets can harm the animals.

* 90% said they do not believe reptiles and amphibians should be kept as pets because they suffer in captivity

The end result could be a ban on hobby reptiles/amphibians keeping if they continue pushing hard enough :(

It would be interesting to have conversation on this article in a separate thread!

Makes sense now! I haven't seen any tortoises/turtles in PetSmart for a couple of years, but they still have decent goods for reptiles.
My only wish is for every pet store is an educational moment.
