So I came across a reddit post today and it was a post about an Indian Star tortoise that the keeper found dead. He lives in India and he keeps them in a walled off area in the yard with soil, plenty water, plants and rock areas. According to the owner the tortoise was fine when he last checked the day before, no symptoms of being sick or off. Then the next day he found it and it was dead, with foam coming out of the mouth, 1 eye open 1 closed, looked like a bit of blood coming out of nares, neck was extremely swollen. It couldn't have been dead longer than 1 night. I will link the reddit post below, the photos are of the dead tortoise, they are pretty graphic. I googled similar symptoms of foaming at mouth with blood and swollen neck and I found a post here of another tortoise that looked similar, that one died from freezing temps. The keeper also has other Indian Stars and those were kept together and fine.

Does anyone have any insight about how that tortoise died?

We can only guess. Foaming at the mouth like that can be from over heating or from eating something toxic.
